Intro Post
Here's a picture of our most recent family member to start this blog off. Taken, not with the 5D, but my first digital camera, a Nikon Coolpix 2500. Among other things, snapshots like this are why I got into photography.Intro
I've decide to start this blog because I want someplace to keep my thoughts as I learn how to use my newest digital camera acquisition, an Canon EOS 5D. Given that the entry price for this camera is so steep, I figured my ramblings might be of some interest to others who are considering it or just want to know more.
Background
My photographic background is in 35mm film equipment with Pentax equipment (my pz-1p being my favorite film body and one I'll compare to a lot). Since I got into photography well after the digital revolution, I completely skipped the chemical darkroom and went for a digital darkroom with a Photosmart slide scanner, something else I'll occasionally compare to. Once it was evident that digital cameras were going to surpass film, I “went digital” with a series of point and shoot digital cameras to learn the technology on. I've been stuck in that mode for the last 3-4 years until last month, when a confluence of money, product offerings/features and photographic frustration with my current digital cameras pushed me to make the jump to a DSLR. Since I'm into macro photography, and was beginning to explore wide-angle lens macro photography when I took my sidetrack into digital photography, I skipped the entry point DSLRs and jumped directly to an EOS 5D.
